Suzan Gila Benmayor

Born in Istanbul, Suzan Gila Benmayor is working at Hurriyet Newspaper since 1981.

She studied English Literature and Archeology at Istanbul University and finished her master degree on Journalism and Public Relations at the same university.

Between 1990-1994, she worked at Hurriyet Newspaper as Deputy Foreign News Editor and between 1994-2000 as Foreign News Editor.

Since 2000, she is working as a columnist at the Economy section at Hurriyet Newspaper and Hurriyet Daily News published in English.

Her column has a wide range of areas but she especially focuses on social and cultural issues and gender issues.

Focusing on women issues since the Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995 Benmayor is the first journalist to introduce World Economic Forum Gender Gap Report in Turkey.

She interviewed many among which are Simon Peres, Jacques Attali, Richard Falk, Pervez Musharraf, Shirin Ebadi, Laura Bush, John Nash, Paolo Coelho, Thomas Piketty, Olivier Roy.

She received the Oktay Ekinci Press Award in 2016 by TMMOB (Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects) for her distinguished and sensible works on society, city, cultural heritage and environments issues.

She is an honorary member of KAGIDER (Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey) and a present member of the Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.

She speaks fluent French, fluent English and conversational Spanish.
