Ms. Mara Marinaki of Greece was appointed in May 2011 as the Managing Director for Global & Multilateral Issues at the European External Action Service.
Prior to taking up her current functions, Ambassador Marinaki was the Permanent Representative of Greece to the OSCE from September 2007 till April 2011, where she chaired the Permanent Council during the 2009 Greek OSCE Chairmanship.
Ms. Marinaki joined the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1980, and has served as Political Counsellor in the Diplomatic Office of the Prime Minister (1993), Political Counsellor in the Office of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993-1995), Deputy Director for South-Eastern Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999-2000), Director (Ambassador) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for EU/Justice, Home Affairs and Schengen as well as national inter-service coordinator on EU/Justice and Home Affairs issues. During 2004, Ms. Marinaki was Special Coordinator for Schengen implementation for the 2004 Athens Olympics. During her career, she has served abroad in postings in Washington DC, Berlin, Vienna and Brussels.
Ms. Marinaki is a law graduate from the University of Athens, and she holds an LL.M in International Law from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. Ms. Marinaki also holds an MA degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy which she attended while following courses at the JF Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Law School.
